If you've been served with a temporary restraining order, here are three things every guy needs to know so you don't get screwed in the long term. Although there are no shortage of legitimate reasons why women will seek restraining orders against men, there's a trend and it's been accelerating recently where women are filing, restraining order applications, not because they're in any genuine fear of their safety, but because they're simply trying to get a leg up in the divorce. Whether that means trying to get an unfair advantage in custody or to try to get you kicked out of your home, which you otherwise would have a right to reside in.

And in most of these applications, the women are exaggerating, if not outright fabricating the allegations because in their eyes, the means justifies the ends. What I'm telling you guys is you gotta fight this. You gotta fight it hard. Because if you don't fight it hard, if the courts label you as a domestic abuser, you're gonna be battling uphill for a very long time.

Because every judge that comes into the case afterwards is gonna look back and say, another judge found that you were a domestic abuser.

So if you value your relationships with your kids, and I hope you do, if the claims are false and exaggerated, you need to fight like hell. The other thing you need to know is that once they get that restraining order, don't expect that's the end of it. Right? It's not enough that you've been kicked out of the house.

It's not enough that they've taken your kids away from you. Now they're going to weaponize it, not as a shield, but as a sword. Any tiny little Tic Tac violation that they perceive any slight, they're gonna speed dial the police department and try to have you arrested. And if you ultimately are found guilty of having violated a restraining order, you could be looking at a felony conviction.

Real serious stuff. You think they'll take advantage of that? It happens all the time. You gotta fight like hell.

Now the good news is these things can be beat. And if the claims are false and exaggerated and your attorney, if he's good on his feet and can work quickly, I've had tremendous success attacking these restraining orders. The other good news is that when women abuse restraining order applications, all too often it backfires on them because the courts see what they did.

When you try to take kids away from a good dad and you try to do it for selfish reasons, I will remind the court at every opportunity of what this wicked woman did, and it may ultimately cost them custody of their kids. I've seen that happen many times. So if you've been served with the restraining order, it's critical that you contact my office right away. There's gonna be a hearing in fourteen days. It's not a lot of time to prepare, but it's enough. And if you do, you'll be so glad you did.
